Invermere on the Lake is the entertainment and service center for the Fairmont-Radium region of the Columbia Valley, providing a full range of retail services, restaurants, accommodations and evening entertainment. The village is a very popular recreational spot with good access to Lake Windermere and two excellent public beaches – Kinsmen and James Chabot. The warm waters of the lake offer a multitude of water sports including sailing, windsurfing, water skiing and swimming.
The Invermere Museum is housed in four log buildings in a park at the top of the hill entering town. Located near Kinsmen beach, Pynelogs Cultural Centre offers live performances, art shows and café.
The area is ideal for hiking, with many maintained trails. Eight 18-hole golf courses and numerous par 3 courses open in March and all are within twenty minutes from town. The valley also offers mountain/cross-country biking, canoeing/kayaking through the numerous wetlands and on the lake, paragliding, fishing, ATV adventuring, horse back riding, river rafting, wildlife and bird viewing. Float from one lake to the other on the meandering Columbia River, or from Lake Windermere north to Radium.
In the winter, opportunities for downhill skiing, heli-skiing, skating the world’s longest ice skating trail across Lake Windermere, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and sightseeing flights to view the spectacular glaciers of the adjacent mountains are available locally.
