Location: On Hwy 19 on Vancouver Island’s northeast shore on Queen Charlotte Strait, two-hour drive north of Campbell River, four hours north of Nanaimo. The airport is located five minutes south of town. Population: 2600.

 

Port McNeill is a direct jumping off point for Broughton Archipelago Provincial Marine Park, world-famous for whale watching, sea kayaking and scuba diving. Local wildlife viewing guides and fishing charters abound for unlimited trip options. The town also provides the only access to the villages of Alert Bay/Cormorant Island and Sointula/Malcolm Island via daily BC Ferries connections.


Port McNeill offers accommodations, tenting and RV camping. Visitors can enjoy the busy harbor and strolling the seawall, dining on a wide range of local seafood and ethnic fare, golfing and the rich collection of artifacts housed at the Heritage Museum. The community hosts a logger sports competition in July and the week long Orcafest in August.
