One of the largest earth filled dams in the world, WAC Bennett Dam is over 2 kilometers long, 183 meters high and 850 meters thick at the base, The Visitor Centre offers a collection of interactive displays and pictures defining the history, construction and operation of the dam and powerhouse. Every exhibit in the centre provides part of the answer to the basic question posed at the entrance: “What really happens when you switch on a light?”
The free guided tour takes approximately 1 hour. After the guided tour, have a snack in the cafeteria located in the lower level of the Visitor Center or see some of the other sites in the area such as the wildlife viewing area (approximately 10 km. along the north shore of Williston Lake), the Hudson’s Hope Museum or the Peace Canyon Dam.
